Shows How uses the surreal sculpture garden of Las Pozas in Mexico as a site from which to explore stage sets, movement, form, site, and composition. Las Pozas was created in the sub-tropical rainforest of San Luis Potosí by the poet and arts patron Edward James between the 1960-1980s. The site is a living capriccio combining pre-Columbian, classical European, and modern architectural references, all seemingly falling into ruin. The totality of the thirty-six structures give the sense of a huge stage set, brought to life by a backdrop of cicadas, thunderous waterfalls, birdsong, and tourists.
Shows How highlights the theatricality of the site, whilst maintaining an interest in composition as an expanded form of exhibition making.
Exhibited as part of Audiograft Experimental Music Festival alongside Kathy Hinde, Simon Blackmore, and Sally Ann McIntyre.
