Kissing Repeat (2019)
Kissing Repeat is playfully based around the structure of the tetrahedron, referencing Buckminster Fuller’s ideas of spatiality and his criteria for the minimum limit of a system. The score was written for the guitarist Cristián Alvear and sculptor/sound artist/performer Rie Nakajima.
Alvear has developed special techniques for playing quiet music with as little instrument noise as possible, extending his research into the performance of experimental contemporary music and the role of indeterminancy. Nakajima works with objects as sound-making devices, with pieces often composed in direct response to architectural spaces. The score bring together their unique performance techniques, exploring the limits of the instrument and the spatial qualities of an object and the site of performance.
Commissioned by Another Timbre. Premiered at Cafe OTO, 2019.
