Performing Objects
Performing Objects was a workshop devivered as part of Points of Listening. It explored different types of composition, such as instructional scores and improvisation, and discussed how different material combinations affect our responses to objects and space. Using the material qualities of different objects as metaphors for different qualities of sound, participants were asked to question how the resultant composition can be thought of in relation to our sonic environment, and considered how the installation acts as a performance in itself.
The workshop is included in Reflections on the Participatory and Polyphonic Potential of Communal Sonic Practices by Salomé Voegelin and Mark Peter Wright (2022).
Points of Listening (PoL) is co-convened by Salomé Voegelin and Mark Peter Wright in association with Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice (CRiSAP), University of the Arts, London. It began in 2014 and continues as an ongoing project of collective listening and sound making situated at the intersection of sound arts, participatory practices and education.
