Tim ParkinsonMy intention was to write about something currently being worked on, the words thereby being more accurate and in tandem with the work, rather than a failed attempt to reconstruct and explain the motivations and behaviour of a previous self. However, in the end the work was not concluded and currently remains on hiatus. These words then record only singular momentary glimpses through the protean primordial fog and, as such, continue to remain neither comprehensive nor satisfactory.
October - November 2014
- Rerecorded an old thing new sounds never was happy with how it came out so put all through a filter make it all better. Maybe I’m recycling it for new project or whatever it is. Fuck knows. Despair over explanation. Enjoy the pursuit, put it together in Blocks & Shapes & Balances & Weights & Proportions & Discoveries. Explanation comes later in time and space. Here now is just work, one thing to another, no time or space.
- Try to rethink it. What do I think? Did something but got tired so did something else. Gather & print & cut and paste, make a demo, how does it work? then continue to remix another thing, export that then make another demo how does that work, have ideas & change & alter things, revisit the source, maybe I should go back to that // then move onto what happens next & realise I’m at where I was before. Except before I was trying to map the whole thing out from above which didn’t work now I’m walking through it, piecing it together in sequence. & can there be a smaller version I wonder?
- Straight into the studio and start nailing things to the sculpture. Try out words the ideas that need trying out and structures (soon collapsed) & other instruments, try it all see what sticks & what falls off... So is it any further on? Things have been tried & tested. Have some patience it’s only a few days. The image of a sculpture though is in its totality. It’s already this tall. Just needs brought into focus.
- Reworking over yesterday, moving on, & rethinking & trying out & finding it all again & pushing into it, then stepping back to see what’s done. Don’t add things just superimpose them. What’s already there is ok. Put a house next to it. Yes it is distinct as a separate thing & is a dynamic superimposition. How long & what else.

In 2015, Wolf Notes invited composers and musicians to write a short text about one of their own pieces. A word count of no more than 500-words was the only guidance given.
Tim Parkinson is an experimental composer, pianist and curator. His music has been commissioned and performed by ensembles including Apartment House, the Basel Sinfonietta and the London Sinfonietta, and soloists including Anton Lukoszevieze and Rhodri Davies.
